With your help the Southmead Hospital Charity can fund ground-breaking medical research, provide specialist equipment at the cutting-edge of technology and improve treatment facilities for generations to come.
Working alongside our staff and patients, we fundraise for projects that are beyond the remit of the NHS but have a huge impact on the lives of patients. The charity provides funding to medical and health research projects to support high quality research projects with the potential for making a real impact within the NHS.
Currently we are looking to fund to major research projects into Parkinson's Disease and Brain Cancer.
In addition to these we have a dedicatred Research Fund which was set up in 2006 and has funded 74 projects totalling more than £760,000. There are currently 24 active projects funded through your public donations.
Previous research projects include:
- researching whether a patient's own immune system can be used to fight lung cancer
- the educational and developmental outcomes for premature babies
- whether a blood test can be devised to detect a brain tumour
