Being diagnosed with cancer, managing the treatments you’ve been told you need, making all the appointments you’ve been given, and dealing with the aftermath of all it brings can mean that you often don’t get to look after YOU.
Our NGS Macmillan Wellbeing Centre based here at the heart of Southmead Hospital offers information and support for anyone living with a cancer diagnosis. We have been open since 2014 and welcome everyone for living well activities, cancer-specific education, support groups, complementary therapies and help in finding further information.
Everyone has the right to feel special and to feel treated, and if we can facilitate a woman to feel like themselves again, rather than just ‘a patient’, then we are doing a good job already.
One example of this is our next ‘Beautiful You’ day this week, run in conjunction with Southmead Hospital Charity’s partners John Lewis. During the day professionals will be on hand to offer expert advice on make-up, skin care, fashion and styling to our patients. And of course, lots of tea, coffee, biscuits and cake provided by us at the Centre.
We know a woman’s external look is a huge factor towards how she feels about herself, and everyone deserves to feel pampered and cared for. It’s a small step forward to re-building confidence, and we are so privileged to be able to hold the day for some lovely ladies. We’re very grateful to John Lewis for making it possible.
Without the generous support of donors we wouldn’t be able to continue offering our services. We rely on donations to keep our Centre going, so please drop in or visit our webpage to find out more.
