Take your love for Southmead Hospital to new heights

Following the postponement of the Abseil Adventure in September, we’ve rearranged the event for Saturday 6 & Sunday 7 May, 2023.

On 6 & 7 May, take on a gravity-defying challenge for Southmead Hospital – abseil 100 feet down Southmead Hospital and raise money for the heart of your community – your NHS.

Whether you’re a patient, a member of staff, or someone who loves that burst of adrenaline, this epic event is a chance to make a memory – and a difference – that will last a lifetime.

To reserve your place, simply sign up using the button below and pay a £30 registration fee. You’ll receive a free t-shirt and support from our fundraising team to help you raise a minimum of £100.

15% discount for teams of four

If you fancy a day out with a difference with your friends, family, or colleagues we’ve got a special 15 per cent discount for groups of four or more. The perfect event to take on as a team. Be quick, as places are limited!

Please note that to benefit from the group discount you must book your team places as part of the one transaction. For example, one team member is responsible for paying for four places and the discount is applied during the registration process.

Your Abseil Adventure awaits

What are you waiting for? Join us on 6 & 7 May and reach new heights for the patients and staff at Southmead Hospital.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can take part in the Abseil Adventure?
We’re looking for people of all ages and backgrounds to take part in our epic abseil down Southmead Hospital. You should be at least 14 years old, and if you’re younger than 18, you must have parental or legal guardian consent at registration to take part. Please speak to Hannah if you have a thrill seeker under 14 years old that would love to take part.

Our trusted partners at Dave Talbot Adventure Events will need to know about any medical conditions to ensure they can support your individual needs. If you have any questions about mobility requirements, please get in touch. Our maximum weight limit is 18 stone.

Can I take part as a team?
The more the merrier is our approach when it comes to the abseil! Ask your friends, family, or colleagues to join you in this sky-high adventure. We’re even offering a 15% discount for teams of four or more people who sign up in a single transaction.

How will the abseil be run with respect to the pandemic?
Keeping you happy, healthy, and safe is the most important thing for us. We’ll keep most of our event outside, and participants will only enter our hospital to access the roof. You’ll need to wear a mask on your way up to the roof and maintain social distancing throughout. Rest assured; we’ll be cleaning the equipment regularly between uses.

If you or any of your team were to test positive for Covid-19 in the 10 days before the event, you will need to notify us and won’t take part. Unfortunately, due to the last-minute nature, we won’t be able to refund your registration fee or your sponsorship. We’ll send you full details of the day and our safety measures ahead of the event.

What if the event cannot go ahead or the location and dates change?
Suppose the event is cancelled or postponed due to extreme weather or the changing impact of the pandemic. In that case, we’ll transfer your place to a new date or location. We’ll consider refunds on an individual basis.

Where can the money I raise support?
We ask our fundraisers to support our area of greatest need. From ground-breaking research and patient and family wellbeing to staff support, equipment, and enhancing buildings and spaces, your support will help us be there for every patient every step of the way.

What does my registration cover?
Your £30 registration fee will be used to cover the costs of running the event. All your fantastic fundraising will support the hospital.

Can I fundraise offline?
Yes! We’ll send you a sponsor form for recording any offline donations you receive. Remember to ask for a complete home address and postcode for us to claim Gift Aid. It will make your fundraising go 25% further at no extra cost to you.

Do I need to set up my own fundraising page?

No, a fundraising page will be set up for you automatically once you’ve registered your place and you’ll be emailed a link to access it. We recommend personalising your page as much as possible to engage readers and encourage people to sponsor you.

How does team fundraising work?

While a fundraising page will be set up for each of you upon registration, teams will also have a team fundraising page they can share. This works well for teams that have mutual friends, family or colleagues so that supporters can donate once to the team page instead of splitting their donation across multiple pages. We take team fundraising into account when it comes to raising the minimum £100 target per person.

Can I choose when I abseil?
We have slots available from 9am to 3.30pm on both days of our Abseil Adventure weekend. You will be asked to choose your preferred time slot as part of the registration process. It’s first-come, first-served, so make sure you book asap to avoid disappointment!

How long does the abseil last?
You’ll need to arrive at least 15 mins before your allocated start time to check-in, gear up, and train before heading to the roof for your big moment – the abseil! The descent itself usually lasts 5 to 10 minutes; the memories will last a lifetime.

Can my friends and families watch?
We really hope that your friends and family can join you on the big day to give you that all-important cheer as you brave new heights for Southmead Hospital. We follow government guidance on the Covid-19 pandemic carefully and will let you know before the day if that’s not possible.

What can I wear on the day?
You should wear comfortable clothing on the day and light-coloured, soft-soled shoes. We will also offer everyone a free Charity t-shirt for the day, but if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, why not consider fancy dress? Just remember, no capes!

Will I have fun?
Absolutely! Nothing beats the feeling of helping other people – and that’s just what you’ll be doing by taking on our Abseil Adventure. So what are you waiting for? Sign up today!

I can’t make the dates this year but I’m really interested. What can I do?
