Abseil down Southmead Hospital!

For the first time ever the public are being given the chance to abseil 100 feet down the side of the Southmead Hospital.

Southmead Hospital Charity is holding a sponsored abseil event on September 9 to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Care Appeal.

Never before has an abseil been held down the landmark Brunel Building, which opened in 2014.

Adrian Brown, Community Appeals Manager, said: “The Amazing Abseil Adventure is a real challenge for people to take on and a truly unique opportunity to get behind the scenes and take in the magnificent views of North Bristol and all the way to the Severn Crossing.

“You can raise money for our Prostate Cancer Care Appeal or another area of the hospital close to your heart – perhaps a ward or department that has helped you or a loved one.

“We’d also love to get teams involved – perhaps you can gather a team of your work colleagues or friends together to make the most of this fun event.

“No experience is necessary as our qualified instructors from The Outer Edge will provide full training and support on the day.”

The Prostate Cancer Care Appeal aims to raise £2million to purchase two surgical robots for the hospital to meet growing demand, fund new diagnostic and treatment options and to support the training of the next generation of robotic surgeons - improving outcomes for men with prostate cancer.

The charity are offering an early bird rate for sign ups of just £25 until August 21, after that the sign up fee is £35.

In addition, participants will be required to raise a minimum £100 in sponsorship.
