Southmead Hospital Charity will once again be filling Southmead Hospital with live music as the Great Brunel Buskathon returns for the month of June, this year raising money for the charity’s Prostate Cancer Care Appeal.

Building on the success of the previous two years’ Buskathons, the Charity is hosting a variety of performers in the hospital’s Brunel building, and at The Mall Cribbs Causeway and in Broadmead. All performers will be ‘busking’ for free, raising money for the Appeal. Some particularly popular acts are returning, including jazz violinist Jessica Diamond, and Thornbury’s Ukelele Jam.

At Friday’s launch visitors, patients and staff in the hospital will be treated to a perfomance from the duet Katie and Anita – a mother and daughter duo whose grandmother was treated here at Southmead Hospital.

Other highlights of the Buskathon include:

Monday 4 June – Jessica Diamond, jazz violinist, Southmead Hospital, 10.30am

Tuesday 5 June – Opera in a Box, Southmead Hospital, 7pm

Saturday 9 June – Cribbs Causeway: performances by the Salvation Army Band and the Mack Quartet

Saturday 16 June – Broadmead:  performances by soloist Toby Brewer, jazz violinist Jessica Diamond, and the Rock Choir

Friday 22nd – Airbus Workplace Choir, Southmead Hospital, 12.30pm

Saturday 23 June – Strictly Southmead, Southmead Hospital,  2pm

“We have a fantastic programme of performers lined up for the month, ranging from choirs and bands, to soloists and musicians.” explains community appeals manager, Adrian Brown.

“Our programme is being updated daily and we’ve got something planned for most days throughout June so we’d urge everyone to check our website to see when the various acts are on and come along and support our Appeal.  Our Charity is known for it’s use of live music in the hospital setting and we’re proud of the great feedback we receive each year.  The music lifts the spirits, and makes the hospital a happy place to be.

“We’ve also got performers playing for us in Cribbs Causeway on 9th June and in Broadmead on 16th June.  So we hope everyone will look out for them and pop their spare cash in our collection buckets to raise money for our Prostate Cancer Care Appeal.”

Southmead Hospital Charity’s Buskathon was first launched in June 2016 and takes place twice a year.

“We’re very grateful to all of the performers who will be busking for us.” Add Adrian.

“And it’s not too late to support the Buskathon.  If you’re doing a performance anywhere, you can still hold a collection for us.”
