Come and meet a robot

Come to our Robot Day on Tuesday 1 November and meet the latest in surgical robot technology – you’ll even get the chance to try your hand at robotic surgery.

On Robot Day we’ll have on display in our Brunel building the robot which we use here at Southmead Hospital in our Urology department, mostly to treat men with prostate cancer.  The Robot will be here to highlight our new Prostate Cancer Care Appeal to raise £2 million to buy 2 new surgical robots so that we can treat even more men with prostate cancer.

Robotic surgery is much better for the patients – it’s more accurate, less invasive, and patients recover from it much more quickly than from traditional surgery.  On Robot Day, the robot will give demonstrations of its precision and agility, and visitors will get the chance to try operating it themselves.  You’ll be able to peel a grape with it.

We will also have on hand members of the surgical team to answer any questions, and a representative from the company which manufactures the robot to field more technical queries.

Robot Day is a great opportunity to see the robot in action up close, and to try it out for yourself and ask questions.  We really hope you’re able to come along – no need to register, just pop in anytime from 10am - 4pm.
