Come and meet a robot this Saturday
Come and meet the latest in surgical robot technology and try your hand at robotic surgery here at Southmead Hospital.
This Saturday 9th September we’ll have on display in our Brunel building the robot which we use in our Urology department, mostly to treat men with prostate cancer. The robot will be here to highlight our Prostate Cancer Care Appeal to raise £2 million to buy 2 surgical robots so that we can treat even more men with prostate cancer.
Robotic surgery is much better for the patients – it’s more accurate, less invasive, and patients recover from it much more quickly than from traditional surgery. On Saturday, the robot will give demonstrations of its precision and agility, and visitors will get the chance to try operating it themselves.
Representatives from the company which manufactures the robot will be on hand to field more technical queries, and members from our Charity team will be able to tell you more about our Appeal.
It’s a great opportunity to see the robot in action up close, try it out for yourself and ask questions. We really hope you’re able to come along – no need to register, just pop in anytime from 10am - 4pm.
