Meet two of our amazing super hero fundraisers, June Wilson and her sister-in-law Cherry Stroud. They have been busy fundraising for the last couple of years. And for their latest challenge last weekend they and a group of friends walked a staggering 37 miles from Cirencester to Southmead Hospital in just 15 hours.
The women have so far raised an amazing £2,000 for us and Cancer Research. The money for Southmead Hospital will go towards our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where June’s son was treated following an accident.
“We started fundraising in June 2015 to celebrate our 50th birthdays. We have chosen to raise money for Southmead Hospital’s ICU as my son was treated for a blood clot on his brain and we want to say thank you.” Explains June.
The women’s fundraising activities have so far included a BBQ, a sleepover on the streets of Cirencester, a jumble sale, pub crawl, bingo night, New Year’s Eve party, a coffee morning, and a car boot sale. Then the big walk last week.
“We had 17 walkers aged from 19 - 63. We walked via Tetbury, Didmarton, Horton, Yate and then on to Bristol. We had a few stops and had four support vehicles driven by family members to follow us with warning lights.” Adds June.
“We kept going with drinks, fruit, sweets and ice.”
It’s a heroic effort but June and Cherry aren’t stopping there. In June they are holding a raffle auction as their final fundraising event. We’re very grateful for all of their support.
