Former NICU Baby Fundraises for Unit
We had a very special visitor here last week. Richard Buchanon who was cared for as a premature baby in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nearly 28 years ago came in with a cheque for £350 which he raised for the Unit by doing the Bradley Stoke 10K.
Richard was born at just 28 weeks in 1989, and decided to run the Bradley Stoke 10k to fundraise for NICU as a way of saying thanks.
On his visit back to NICU Richard was joined by his mother, Ruth, who has just retired from working at North Bristol NHS Trust as a midwife. They were both able to meet some of the staff who remembered caring for Richard all those years ago.
“I wanted to raise money for NICU as the Unit did a lot for me in my first stages of life.” Explains Richard.
“After all these years I felt it was time to give something back to the team who ultimately saved my life! I chose to do the Bradley Stoke 10k as it’s a local race - I managed to run it in 59 minutes 49 seconds so I was over the moon to have beaten my target along with raising the money for NICU.” Adds Richard
“My next goal is to run the Cardiff Half Marathon which would be a great stepping stone to my ultimate goal of running the London Marathon!”
