Melissa's 12 hour fitness challenge for NICU

Melissa's son Albie

Gym manager Melissa Parkes is planning a 12 hour fitness marathon this month to raise money for Southmead Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit  where her son Albie received life-saving treatment last year.

Last July Albie made a very early and very quick entrance in to the world.  He was 8 weeks premature and spent the first month of his life in Southmead’s NICU.

“The nursing staff were incredible and I can't thank them enough for the care they gave not only Albie, but myself and my fiance Shaun.” Explains Melissa.

“As a thank you for all they did for us I am going to complete 12 hours of group exercise classes on 13th April from 10am to 10pm.  I will even be teaching at least 3 of the classes myself!"

The event will be held at Pure Gym Bristol Union Gate and everyone is welcome to join in – there’s no need to be a member.  If you would like to go along on the day, complete a class or two and have fun whilst raising money, please contact

“Any donation big or small would really help NICU continue their great work with premature or poorly babies.” Adds Melissa.
