Sarah Harrison has been appointed as Director of Southmead Hospital Charity and will take up her position in February next year.
Sarah will join the charity at an exciting time as the team builds on a successful year. Last year, Southmead Hospital Charity’s supporters, fundraisers and donors raised a record £3.4million to support services at North Bristol NHS Trust.
And 2019 saw the culmination of the charity’s £2million Prostate Cancer Care Appeal to purchase two surgical robots for urological and gynaecological teams at Southmead Hospital.
Sarah, who joins the charity from the University of Birmingham where she currently leads their fundraising and volunteering teams, has a broad range of finance and charitable expertise.
She said: “It is an absolute privilege to be joining Southmead Hospital Charity. I’m really looking forward to meeting many of the charity’s wonderful donors and volunteers, and the staff, patients and their families who benefit from the charity’s work.
“I am passionate about the amazing projects and services that the charity delivers for North Bristol NHS Trust, and I am excited to be a part of bringing even greater impact in helping more patients and their families by increasing charitable support in the future.”
Jacqui Marshall, director of people & transformation at North Bristol NHS Trust, said: “This is a new role for the charity and has been introduced to build on the fantastic successes that the team have achieved.
“Sarah’s experience will bring a new perspective to the charity’s leadership and relationship-building with partners and donors.
“Sarah has a real passion and enthusiasm to support the amazing projects that are changing lives and enabling the NHS locally to make great strides in pioneering medical research and treatments.”
Southmead Hospital Charity supports the work of Southmead Hospital, Cossham Hospital and community health services in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.
With support and donations from fundraisers and partners, the charity funds ground-breaking medical research, provides specialist equipment at the cutting-edge of technology and improve treatment facilities for generations to come.
Liz Bond, head of fundraising at Southmead Hospital Charity, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming Sarah to the team, at such an exciting time for us.
“The new role of director of the charity will enable us to have greater long-term impact on the hospitals that we support – making our bright future even brighter.”
