Surgical team to take on dragon boat race
A team of surgical staff from Southmead Hospital are taking up their oars next month to raise money for our Prostate Cancer Care Appeal at this year’s Dragon Boat Festival, organised by the Rotary Club of Bristol Breakfast.
Nurses, surgeons, matrons and administrators from our surgical division have come together as a team to take on the challenge. They’ll be rowing in a number of fast-paced races at the event, which takes place on Sunday 18 June at Baltic Wharf.
We have been chosen as one of the charities to be supported by this year’s Festival. The majority of funds raised by the event will go towards our Prostate Cancer Care Appeal to raise £2 million to buy two surgical robots to treat men in the region with prostate cancer.
“We’re delighted to be chosen by the Rotary Club of Bristol Breakfast to benefit from the Dragon Boat Festival.” Explains our community appeals manager, Adrian Brown.
“The money we receive from the event will go towards our Appeal and we’re very grateful to everyone who is taking part, and to everyone who sponsors the teams.”
The annual dragon boat competition is an exciting event and the lively atmosphere (and competitive spirit) ensure a fun and energetic day out.
“We, of course, want to wish all teams taking part the best of luck. But we’d also like to wish extra special luck to the team from our hospital!” adds Adrian.
