Wayne makes a splash for NICU
We wanted to share Wayne Carter's blog on his recent swimathon for Southmead Hospital Charity, supporting the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit. Wayne is the head of sales and marketing for National Friendly - who have chosen us as their charity of the year for 2019. Here he talks about why he decided to take on the 50 length swimming challenge.
"Good news! I completed my Swimathon, raising over £1000 for Southmead Hospital Charity’s NICU fund. 50 lengths non-stop, which took me 26.16 minutes to complete. I want to give a big, big thank you to all those that dug deep to sponsor me, it was really appreciated. I have included a couple of photos of the day. There is one of me in armbands, they were kindly donated by Lucid Recruitment from Cardiff.
I have written several small blogs and for those few of you out there that have read them, you will know I talk about how important my family are to me. This charity sort of ‘clicked’ with me, because it made me think how damn lucky I am to have three healthy children and three healthy grandchildren. I lost my brother and sister at a young age so understand the grief felt around that. Having said that, how difficult it must be to see your child/grandchild fighting for their life from the get-go and not being able to really do anything about it. So you put the life of your child/grandchild in the hands of amazing people that work in the NICU at Southmead. I have listened to my colleague Louise when she tells me how the unit helped her and her son (now 20 yrs old): She will be forever grateful for their work at NICU, that really comes across in the warmth and gratitude that comes across during her story.
So, albeit in a small way, I hope the small amount I have raised will help another family come away from NICU with their new baby in arms, heading home to start a great, exciting life together. Well done NICU.
My fundraising page is still open, so if you'd like to donate please follow this link here."
