Live Christmas musical performances throughout December at Southmead Hospital

Live musical performances will be filling Southmead Hospital with the sound of music in the lead up to Christmas.Southmead Hospital Charity’s and Fresh Arts Festive Music Programme features choirs, gospel singers, pianists and classical singers as part of the charity’s Christmas Appeal.

Performances take place throughout the day and into the evening on almost every day in the run up to Christmas, including special performances by the Salvation Army who will be singing as they roam around the hospital on Christmas Day.

Bristol Male Voice Choir, The Avon and Somerset Constabulary Choir as well as several local school choirs are also among the dozens of choirs performing.

There are lots of solo pianists, staff singing groups and the newly formed NBT Brass Band.

The festive music performances take place in the atrium of the new hospital by the Christmas display and staff, patients and visitors are all welcome.

Fresh Arts is the hospital’s live music and arts programme which provides arts based therapies and projects throughout the year.

The charity is holding a series of fundraising events to support the Christmas Appeal, raising money for patients and staff.

Events throughout December include:

  • A special Christmas Grotto display in the atrium of the Brunel Building provided by John Lewis.
  • A Christmas tree where you can dedicate a decoration to a loved one, as a thank you or in memory.
  • Festive cake sales throughout November and December.

Money raised from the events will provide books for babies born at Southmead Hospital on Christmas day, a gift for patients staying in hospital over Christmas and a thank you breakfast event for staff.

Adrian Brown, community appeals manager for Southmead Hospital Charity, said: “Christmas is a special time of year but we should remember that many people cannot be with their families this Christmas because they are in hospital.

“We wanted to add some sparkle to Southmead Hospital this Christmas for those patients who may be facing a difficult time – a small gift can make a difference.

“Many patients and their families also want to use Christmas as a time to say thank you to staff at our hospitals so the Christmas Appeal.

“Please come along to see our Christmas display, enjoy some live music, dedicate a decoration, buy a cake – there is so much you can do to add some sparkle to Southmead this Christmas.

“The choir from St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School performed at the launch of Southmead Hospital Charity’s Christmas Appeal last week and were fanstastic with hundreds of patients, visitors and staff coming along to listen to their beautiful singing, it created a real Christmas buzz in the hospital!”
