Celebrating 74 years of the NHS

Published:

For the last 74 years, your local NHS has been there for generations of your family and you.

Throughout the test of time, the NHS has continued to push the boundaries of modern medicine, changing the world around us. We are living longer; we’ve reduced many infectious diseases, and the number of people surviving life-threatening conditions continues to grow.

And with the support of an incredible community of donors, huge change is happening right here, right now, in Bristol.

Every year here at Southmead Hospital:

  • 6,600 babies are born
  • 24,000 operations are performed by surgeons,
  • 100,000 people come to the Emergency Department
  • The Intensive Care Unit team treat 2,600 of the region’s most critically ill people

On Tuesday 5 July, thanks to donations, staff across the hospital will be tucking into special birthday cakes to celebrate this huge milestone together. Your support, whether it’s your kind words, your gift of time or money, means so much to them.

If you’d like them to hear from you on this special day, you can do so by saying Happy Birthday and donating below. Any donation you make will go towards the area of greatest need at our hospitals to make the biggest difference to the most patients and staff.

It’s only with your support that the NHS will be in the best possible place to care for the next generations of your family. Thank you.

Thank you for your support – it makes a huge difference to our patients, their families and our staff.
