The Hospital Company: a three-year partnership making a lasting difference

Published:

Southmead Hospital Charity is delighted to recognise the contribution of The Hospital Company (THC), whose three-year partnership with the charity is already bringing wide ranging benefits to patients, volunteers and NHS staff across North Bristol NHS Trust.

THC are the organisation that funded the Brunel building and are responsible for looking after and running the hospital building at Southmead Hospital, making sure it’s maintained, repaired and kept in good working order. This supports NHS staff to focus on delivering the best care possible to patients. Their support reflects an ongoing commitment to the hospital, helping to enhance care, strengthen wellbeing and fund projects that make Southmead a more supportive place for everyone.

A partnership with purpose

THC has pledged a significant financial contribution over three years starting in 2025, with funding carefully allocated across initiatives that benefit many corners of the hospital. This longer-term commitment gives the charity greater certainty, enabling it to plan ahead and invest in improvements that have both immediate and lasting impact.

Festive appreciation for staff

As part of this partnership, THC sponsored one of the Christmas trees in the Brunel Building atrium. This sponsorship directly helped  to fund Christmas hampers for staff, as a gesture of gratitude to colleagues who dedicate so much to caring for others, particularly during one of the busiest periods of the year.

This support helped brighten the hospital environment but contributed to staff feeling seen, valued and appreciated during the festive season.

Recognising excellence across the Trust

THC’s support extends to the North Bristol NHS Trust Staff Awards, where they are the lead sponsor in the 2025 event, helping to celebrate the individuals and teams who consistently go above and beyond. Their funding ensures that outstanding achievements are properly acknowledged, strengthening morale and reinforcing a culture of pride within our hospitals.

Driving innovation in patient rehabilitation

A key element of THC’s partnership is investment in cutting-edge healthcare technology. Their recent contribution to the charity’s Walkerbot Appeal is helping to introduce advanced robotic rehabilitation to Southmead Hospital, technology that can transform the recovery journey for patients rebuilding mobility and independence.

This commitment to innovation is helping the Trust remain at the forefront of patient care, offering additional opportunities to improve recovery and outcomes.

Supporting the small things that matter

Not all impact comes from large-scale projects. THC has also allocated funding for discretionary initiatives, enabling smaller but important pieces of work that may need a boost to move forward. Recently, this flexible support enabled the charity to thank volunteers over the festive season, recognising their hard work in enhancing patient comfort, connection and companionship at a time of year when it is needed most.

These contributions may be modest in size, but they create meaningful moments that make hospital life kinder and more supportive for patients and their families.

Touching every corner of our hospitals

The Hospital Company’s partnership is helping Southmead Hospital Charity make tangible improvements across the hospital, from festive celebrations and volunteer support to cutting-edge rehabilitation technology. Their commitment reflects a deep dedication to the wellbeing of the community they serve each day.

We are truly grateful for their continued support and the positive change it brings to patients, staff and volunteers throughout North Bristol NHS Trust.

Thank you for your support – it makes a huge difference to our patients, their families and our staff.
